Nova Scotia Department of Education has developed a Tuition Support Program for those students who qualify. The list of eligibility criteria is available on the Department's website http://tuitionsupport.ednet.ns.ca.
If a student meets the criteria, the base amount of the Tuition Support Grant for 2011-2012 is $7200.00. Students who qualify for Tuition Support may be eligible for an additional supplementary grant of up to 90% of the total tuition cost.
A student applying for Tuition Support for the first time is eligible to be approved if the student:
Is a student with special needs
Is a student with special needs (for the purpose of this support, special needs means a student with ADHD, ASD or LD as diagnosed by a licensed physician or registered psychologist or candidate-registered psychologist. The above professionals must have expertise and training in making these diagnoses)
Has secured a placement in a designated special education private school
Has secured a placement in a designated special education private school for the 2010-2011 school year. [The current designated special education private schools are Bridgeway Academy (Dartmouth and Truro), Churchill Academy and Landmark East]
student who has previously studied in a public school
Is a student who has previously studied in a public school in the Province of Nova Scotia for at least 1 school year
Has received services by a public school
Has received for the 2008-2009 school year educational programs and services by a public school under an individualized program plan established in accordance with policies made by the Minister
Has confirmation from the designated special education private school
Has confirmation from the designated special education private school that he or she will receive individualized programs and services to meet the student's special needs
Offers a written rationale
Offers a written rationale explaining how the programs and services to be provided by the designated special education private school will positively affect the student's academic and behaviourial well-being
Bridgeway Academy offers a number of specialized programs to our day school students, which assist with the development of reading, math, organization and social skills. Many of our programs are now available to the community through our Turning Tides Community Outreach services.
