After School Tutoring Program

Available at Bridgeway Academy locations in Dartmouth and Truro.

Students of all levels can get behind in their studies.  Sometimes, the cause is simply a lack of good organization.  Other times, it is a more deeply rooted problem.

Our Tutoring Program can provide help to students at all levels.  We start with an assessment of a student's strengths and needs and from there, we build an individualized learning program.  Our professional tutors can accommodate students from Grade 1 to university undergraduate studies.

Here are just a few areas we can help with:

Homework Assistance
We can provide assistance in specific curriculum subject areas such as Science, Social Studies and others. This does not include remedial reading, writing, math or organizational skills.

Math
The Math program begins with a formalized math assessment to determine the student's level in math reasoning and operations. An individualized program is then developed which addresses any remedial needs while assisting with grade level requirements.

Language Arts
Students undergo a formalized assessment to determine the student's level of understanding in reading, spelling, writing and reading comprehension. An individual program is then developed to provide remedial help in the areas of need.

Organizational and Study Skills
Students learn how to make the most of classroom instruction, how to prepare for tests, how to prioritize exam studying and project completion.  High school students will also be helped in making the transition from high school to college or university.  University students will also receive help in course selection and resume building.

Social Skills
The Social Skills program has been specifically developed for students who are diagnosed with a nonverbal learning disability and those who share similar characteristics.

The students who take part in the social skills program are grouped according to their strengths, needs and current social/emotional understanding. These are determined through formal and informal assessments.

Components of the Social Skills program include: self awareness, awareness of others, social interaction skills, relationship skills, verbal and nonverbal communication, self management, social thinking and daily life skills.
