How We Pay the Way
Bridgeway is a registered charity. Our educational philosophy depends on a low student-to-teacher ratio for its success. We also operate without government subsidies. Even with the leanest of operations, this creates some financial challenges. To meet the budget we depend on four "F": fees, families, fundraising and friends.
Fees
Tuition fees are reviewed and approved annually by the Board of Directors. Students who have been diagnosed with a learning disability may claim their tuition as a health expense following Revenue Canada guidelines.
Fundraising
Parents participate in a Fundraising Program which is designed to help reduce tuition costs by approximately 25%. Parents enter into a binding contract with Bridgeway which outlines a specific number of hours they must dedicate toward fundraising initiatives throughout the school year. Our current activities include an elegant Silver Lining Soirée and a Winter Fun Fair in which the students are enthusiastic participants.
Families
In addition to hours parents contract as part of their fee agreement, many Bridgeway families are so grateful that their child is finally in a setting where he or she can learn that they generously give their time to organize events and activities, sit on committees and provide general support.
Friends
We have many! From the late Frank J. Donahoe, for whom our bursary fund is named, to the supplier who donates a service or reduces their price to give us a break. Whether they are a big company or the neighbour down the block, our friends all have one thing in common they believe it's important that our work continues.
Tuition Support Funding
Nova Scotia Department of Education has developed a Tuition Support Program for those students who qualify. Please see the Nova Scotia Department of Education Tuition Support website ( http://tuitionsupport.ednet.ns.ca/ ) for more details.
