Thank you Discovery Centre and RIM!
On January 13-14, students from all grade levels at Bridgeway Academy in Dartmouth had the opportunity to visit the Discovery Centre, thanks to a bursary from Research In Motion (RIM) and the Discovery Centre!
Students in Grades 2-7 started our Discovery Centre adventure on January 13, climbing on the bus shortly after 8am for the trip to the Discovery Centre. They visited all of Discovery Centre’s popular, hands-on exhibits and were treated to a James Bond-style film called “Operation Dung Beetle”. (We think the title speaks for itself!)
Students in Grade 2-6 then had the opportunity to participate in a “Slimy Science” workshop, where they created slime. The Grade 7’s also had the chance to do a few experiments during the “Mysterious Mixtures” workshop, where they tried to figure out what was in mystery concoctions put together by Discovery Centre staff.
On January 14, the bus made another trip to the Discovery Centre with students from grades 8-12. Again, the hands-on exhibits were a huge hit, with the bubble room and racetrack being especially popular. Students were challenged to think about energy sources of the future through a film called “Ecopolis”.
Students in grades 8 and 9 then donned their goggles to perform a series of experiments, mixing different substances together during a workshop called “Ready, Set, React!” Students in grades 10-12 recreated a CSI crime lab during a session called “Who are You?” Students learned how DNA is used by scientists then experimented with gel electrophoresis and viewed their own DNA.
A big thank you to the Discovery Centre and RIM for supporting our trip. We had a great time!
